Representing both individuals and businesses, Julie is able to analyze employment situations from multiple perspectives. This quality is unique and provides many benefits to her clients. For individuals, it facilitates a realistic assessment as to whether or not viable employment claims exist and what they are worth. From a business perspective, having a lawyer who understands the employee side of claims provides the ability to offer preventive advice and properly assess the risks of a potential or actual disputes.
Focusing her practice almost exclusively on employment-related cases provides Julie the ability to handle a wide variety of issues that can arise in the workplace. Her experience includes litigating and negotiating contract and commissions disputes, contested eligibility for unemployment benefits, wage and hour issues, violations regarding FMLA leave, allegations of discrimination and harassment, as well as multiple types of retaliation. She has extensively litigated claims in both state and federal courts in Georgia and argued before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and Georgia Court of Appeals. With that said, most of her cases are resolved through informal negotiations and mediation.
Julie believes that forming relationships with other members of the legal community also benefits clients. She has been an active member of the Georgia Affiliate of the National Employment Lawyers Association (“NELA-GA”) since 2002 and served on the Board of Directors from January 2008 to January 2017, including service as 2012 President. She also chaired the NELA-GA annual continuing legal education program for many years, participated in the organization’s mentoring program, led multiple committees, and spoke at meetings and seminars on subjects related to employment law and litigation. Additionally, she was selected as a mentor for the 2017-2018 Mentorship Academy, which is co-sponsored by NELA-GA and the Labor & Employment Section of the State Bar of Georgia.
